In San Luis Obispo County, we are celebrating three Earth Day anniversaries:
40 years since the first Earth Day, April 22, 1970
20 years since the first Earth Day in San Luis Obispo County
10 years since the Earth Day Alliance, Inc. formed
In response to the climate change challenge, the theme for Earth Day SLO 2010 is
Put Your Green Footprint Forward.
The Earth Day Alliance is asking every individual and business to take at least one new green step toward creating a larger green footprint this spring. The Put Your Green Footprint Forward Campaign will kick off on Saturday, March 20 and last through the last day of spring, June 19. Participants will be recognized at Earth Day SLO.
Earth Day SLO 2010 will take place on Saturday, April 24th, from 11 am to 5 pmn in the San Luis Obispo Mission Plaza. There will be over 100 exhibits, a Food Pavilion, Kid’s Zone, Green Car Show, Recycled Art Exhibit, two entertainment venues, a Children’s Parade, workshops, and recognition for Put Your Green Footprint Forward participation.
As in the tradition of the first Earth Day, and the prior 20 annual Earth Days in San Luis Obispo County, this day is intended to raise awareness regarding concerns and offer solutions, insights and tools to preserve and protect our environment. A day of education and a time for activation, it is also a celebration of the Earth and all that it provides for all living things. Admission is free
