On Sunday, April 19, the largest free annual environmental event in SLO County will take place at El Chorro Regional Park from 10 am to 5 pm. Due to the many musicians who will share their talent at the 23rd Annual Earth Day Fair it has expanded to include a Music Festival. “We’ve always featured some of the best music acts in San Luis Obispo County. These musicians play because they care and believe in what Earth Day stands for. It adds a new dimension to a day of discovery and action. Visitors can enjoy for free what they would usually pay an admission fee for,” said Sandra Marshall, Earth Day 2013 coordinator.

Hosted by the Earth Day Alliance, Inc., San Luis Obispo County Parks, and the San Luis Obispo Botanical Garden, the all-day outdoor event will showcase the eco friendly, climate change messages, products, or services of businesses, organizations, schools and college clubs. Features will include a Green Car Show, Kid’s Zone, Eco Marketplace, Green Building & Energy Hub, Food and Drinks, a Beer & Wine Garden and a three stage Music Festival.

Earth Day SLO has been a free event geared for all ages since 1990.  Last year, event attendance and people that rode the bus to Earth Day doubled. With the growing concern to reduce climate change organizers expect another year of increased attendance.

Visitors can help to reduce climate change locally — bicycle, car pool or ride the bus for free.   Rapid Transit Authority (RTA), SCAT and SLO City Transit will provide free bus rides all day long from any where in the county. The double Decker will leave the SLO downtown transit center starting at 10 am until 4 p; returning on the half hour starting at 10:30 am until 4:30 pm.

Sponsorship, exhibitor fees, community grants, donations and many volunteer hours make this event possible.  A limited number of sponsorships and exhibitor spaces are still available. Donations for the drawing/silent auction are being collected.
